And speaking of Cat Power, this is the video for “Lived in Bars”. Haven’t really thought about it too much but I want to say this is my favorite music video from the last 10 years or so. And it’s weird to say that because it’s really just a mix of bad lip-syncing and muddled narrative. I don’t think there’s a strong central idea and there’s nothing technically sophisticated going on. But it feels “human” and even though I know that can be faked I believe it here for some reason. This is mostly people in a room, aware that they are making a “music video” and possibly not all that inspired by that fact, deciding to do what they can and have a little fun with it. And they do so in a way that that seems to complement the essential musicality of the song in question. I like looking at these faces and I love this song.
