Are you a band or musician? Would you like someone, anyone, to write about your music? Here is some advice.
There is good advice here. The one thing I would add to it is that you should take the time to make sure the mp3s you send out are tagged properly. I am constantly downloading songs and albums that look interesting. At the end of every day, I put things in my iPod to listen to later, and I am shocked at how often I’ll see albums and tracks with all information blank and only “Track 01” for the song title. There’s no way for me to even know what it is or where it came from, so I just delete everything that is blank as a matter of course. Sometimes these mp3s even come from publicists who take money from the band in question. If these publicists were lawyers, this would be considered gross malpractice and they would be disbarred.
I feel like there is a moral element to this. If you don’t tag your mp3s and you send them to 300 people, then 300 people have to take the time to do it themselves. It’s a waste of time and energy. If one person does it correctly then it is correct for everyone. And 300 people in the world suddenly have a little time to do more interesting things than data entry. Give the gift of time.
